Sumario:In hydrological studies in the Netherlands nature conservation has been treated mainly as a boundary condition for the protecction of the áreas involved. Forestry got some attention in studies on rainfall /ron off relationships and on evapotranspiration. Until recently little was known about the influence of different water management strategies on nature and forestry. Biologists have always been fully aware of the significance of water for natural vegetation. However it appeared to be difficult to link the knowledge developed in this discipline to the word of hydrologists.
