|a El propósito de este texto es presentar un enfoque lógico y práctico para el estudio de la oclusión y la función del sistema masticatorio. La obra se divide en cuatro secciones. La primera sección consiste en seis capítulos que presentan la anatomía y fisiología normal del sistema masticatorio. Entender las relaciones oclusales normales y la función masticatoria es esencial para comprender su disfuncionalidad. La segunda sección consiste de cuatro capítulos que presentan la etiología e identificación de los trastornos más comunes del sistema masticatorio. La tercera sección se compone de siete capítulos que presentan en forma lógica tratamientos para éstos desórdenes de acuerdo a la significancia etiológica de éstos factores. La última sección contiene cuatro capítulos que presentan consideraciones específicas sobre terapia oclusal permanente.
