| Sumario: | Second level students of the English Career in English 280a and b, which is to say conversation class, in the Centro Regional Universitario de Veraguas usually earn low grades in this subject. Many students are not able to obtain the same grades that they can earn in the other subjects of the curriculum. These same students have studied English for six years before they enter the university. So they are expected to speak English by the time they finish high school. Nevertheless, their grades in conversation class show something different. Also, it must be mentioned that English students spend their first year taking only two subjects related to the English career and neither of these emphasize oral communication. The fact of achieving low grades in conversation class is being accepted as normal because the students in the English Career Program take their first conversation class during their second year of this four-year program. |
